Lilac Thrillpods air-suction massager covered in water droplets with a shower-friendly IPX7 feature card

Can You Use a Massager in the Shower? Waterproof Ratings Explained for Every Bestseller

Short answer: only if it is rated for it. A massager rated IPX-7 can be used in the shower and survive brief submersion. IPX-5 handles shower spray but not the bath. IPX-4 is splash-resistant only, so keep it out of the shower stream. Check the rating in your product's specification before it goes anywhere near water, and always dry the charging port before charging.

"Is it waterproof?" is one of the most common questions about any massager, and the answer is different across the range. Some Thrillerrr products are rated for submersion; some only for splashes; one is listed as not waterproof at all. This guide explains the ratings in plain words and lists the rating shown in each bestseller's specification, so you can use yours safely and avoid water damage.

What IPX ratings mean

IP ratings come from an international standard (IEC 60529) for how well a device keeps out solids and water. The "X" means it was not rated for dust. The number after it is the water rating:

Rating What it can handle In practice
IPX-4 Splashing water from any direction Rinse carefully and wipe clean. Not for the shower stream or the bath.
IPX-5 Low-pressure jets of water from any direction Can be used in shower spray. Do not submerge.
IPX-7 Temporary immersion, up to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes Shower-safe and can be briefly submerged, for example in the bath.

Two things the numbers do not tell you. First, ratings are tested in fresh water at room temperature; hot water, soap, bath oils and salt are harder on seals. Second, seals age. A device rated IPX-7 when new deserves the same care a year later.

These are the water ratings listed in each product's specification on the Thrillerrr website on 2 October 2026. Where another part of a product page says something different, we have noted it and recommend following the lower rating until Thrillerrr confirms.

Shower-safe picks

If you want a massager for the shower, choose from the IPX-7 group. Heartthrob splits into a flicking half and an air-suction half; Sway+ is the app-controlled wand rated IPX-7; Thrillpods are a compact air-suction option; Lovestain and Bunny are small external massagers. Air-suction devices can feel different in water, because the water changes how the suction seal forms, so try them on a low setting first.

Using a massager in the shower safely

  • Charge it beforehand, and never charge in the bathroom.
  • Make sure the charging port or cap is closed and dry before it gets wet.
  • Keep the water warm, not hot. Very hot water is harder on seals and on skin.
  • Remember that water washes lube away. Water-based lube rinses off quickly in the shower. Reapply as needed.
  • Mind your footing. A non-slip mat is a good idea.
  • Keep soaps and bath oils off the device during use; rinse it with plain water after.

Charging-port care

The charging port is where most water damage begins. Whatever the rating:

  1. After washing, shake off excess water and pat the device dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2. Leave it to air-dry, port side down or open, until it is completely dry. An hour is a sensible minimum.
  3. Check the charging contacts are dry and clean before plugging in. Never charge a damp device.
  4. Do not use a hair dryer or heater to speed things up; heat can damage seals and silicone.

Our earlier guide to targeted massagers covers the different product types if you are still choosing.

Cleaning by rating

  • IPX-7: wash under running lukewarm water with mild soap or a toy cleaner, rinse, then dry.
  • IPX-5: rinse under a gentle tap stream with soap or a toy cleaner, but do not soak.
  • IPX-4: wipe with a cloth dampened with mild soapy water, then a clean damp cloth, keeping water away from the port.
  • Not waterproof (Moanster): clean the opening with a toy cleaner or damp cloth; never run the body under water.
  • Thrill Cup: wash the sleeve and cup thoroughly with soap and water and let it air-dry fully before closing.

What water damage means for your warranty

Product pages show a 90-day warranty, and the return, replacement and refund policy covers products that arrive damaged, are defective or do not work as described, if you contact support within 7 days of delivery. The policy also says that if a returned product is found to be non-defective after inspection, the customer pays the shipping. The published policy does not mention water damage specifically, so if your device stops working after contact with water, contact support with your order ID, explain what happened honestly and ask how they will assess it. The simplest protection is to stay within the listed rating.

Signs a device has taken in water

  • It will not charge, or the charging light behaves oddly.
  • It switches on by itself or cuts out.
  • The vibration sounds different or weaker.
  • Condensation is visible inside a clear part.

If you notice any of these, stop using it, do not charge it, let it dry completely in a warm, dry room for a day, then try again. If the problem continues, contact support.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use a personal massager in the shower?

Only if it is rated for it. IPX-7 devices are shower-safe and can be briefly submerged; IPX-5 can take shower spray; IPX-4 is splash-resistant only. Check your product's specification first.

What does IPX-7 mean?

IPX-7 means the device can withstand temporary immersion in water up to 1 metre deep for up to 30 minutes, under the IEC 60529 standard.

Which Thrillerrr bestsellers are waterproof?

Heartthrob, Sway+, Lovestain and Bunny are listed as IPX-7 in their specifications, and Thrillpods' product images say IPX7. Ladykiller is IPX-5. Sway, Curlz, Throb, Meltz, Curlz+, Throb+ and The Gentleman are listed as IPX-4. Moanster is listed as not waterproof.

Is IPX-4 safe for the shower?

No. IPX-4 protects against splashes, not a direct shower stream or submersion. Wipe or rinse it carefully away from the charging port.

Can I charge my massager straight after washing it?

No. Dry it completely first, including the charging contacts. Charging a damp device can damage it.

Does the warranty cover water damage?

Thrillerrr's published policy does not mention water damage specifically. Stay within the listed rating, and if a device fails after contact with water, contact support with your order ID to ask how it will be assessed.
